The Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands reported 79.54 percent average occupancy rate among 12 member-hotels for July 2018.

This figure reflects a 15-percent decrease compared to July 2017.

Average room rates were still higher than last year at $158.86, compared to $149.95 last July. A total of 64,751 of 81,403 available room nights were sold in July 2018, compared to 68,301 of 71,949 available room nights sold over the same period last year.

“Although average occupancy rates were considerably lower than July 2017 due to lower visitor arrivals, the good news is that the average room rate for HANMI hotels have been higher every month this year compared to 2017,” said HANMI chair Gloria Cavanagh. “This means there we are attracting slightly more higher-spending visitors, which is a trend we hope to continue for the Marianas to become a high-end destination. In the meantime, many hoteliers are taking this opportunity to do upkeep and repairs of our facilities. However, it’s imperative that the Marianas Visitors Authority be given full budget support to continue working on improving flight service and demand from all our source markets.”

HANMI was established in 1985. (HANMI)
