Lone candidate for Board of Education Tinian seat out of race

The Commonwealth Election Commission board certified yesterday the candidacies of 93 candidates vying for 45 positions.
The CEC board did not certify the candidacy of Joana Lyn Camacho as a nonpartisan for the Board of Education Tinian seat for failing to meet the five-year residency requirement.
CEC administrative officer Kayla Igitol said in a later interview that Camacho was notified about the board’s decision.
Igitol said they had also informed Camacho about the issue before yesterday’s board hearing.
Camacho did not appear at the board meeting.
With Camacho out, that means that Tinian has no candidate for the island’s BOE seat. The other Tinian candidate, Jonathan SN. Sablan, withdrew his candidacy a day after he filed his petition.
Igitol said the board also approved the ballot layout for the Nov. 6 general election.
With the board’s approval, Igitol sent the ballot layout to their printer, which is based in Nebraska.
Present at the board meeting were pro-tem chair Jesus I. Sablan, pro-tem vice chair Patricia Mareham, four other commissioners, assistant attorney general Charles Brasington, and CEC staff.
