MARC Gala to celebrate community contributors
The Richard F. Taitano Micronesian Area Research Center at the University of Guam will celebrate 50 years of growth as a cultural repository and library with an anniversary gala dinner.
The gala, themed “Navigating Our History to Chart Our Destiny,” will take on Aug. 21 at the Sheraton Laguna Guam Resort’s Ocean Sirena Ballroom.
This anniversary gala celebrates community members who have supported the growth of the MARC by contributing to the development of Micronesian scholarship and cultural awareness. Specifically, MARC will honor Dr. Lawrence Cunningham, a retired educator and former UOG professor, and Fr. Eric Forbes, a local historian whose work focuses on the history of the Mariana Islands.
“Navigating Our History to Chart Our Destiny” dinner tickets are available prior to the event at $50 per guest or $500 per table of 10 guests. Tickets at the door will cost $100 per guest.
Proceeds from the dinner will be used to fund scholarships for graduate students at UOG. Proceeds will also support future MARC projects, including the publication of a high-quality contemporary Guam history book, which will serve as a resource for Guam’s students.
