MTEC Governor’s Tourism Cup set for Sept. 1
Marianas Visitors Authority joins the Marianas Tourism Education Council and My WAVE Clubs as the beneficiaries for the upcoming Governor’s Tourism Cup Golf Tournament set for Sept. 1 on the east course of the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort.
Governor Ralph DLG. Torres expressed his appreciation to MTEC and MVA for being a critical voice in tourism and educating the youth.
“We are all very excited for this year’s tournament and MTEC’s advocacy for sustainable tourism development. For 15 years, MTEC has established tourism education and awareness in our schools and has promoted a generation of advocacy throughout our community. I thank all our participants and sponsors for supporting a great initiative and look forward to an exciting tournament,” Torres said.
“We must continue to reinforce the importance of our tourism industry to all, but most especially the generations that follow. It is vital that businesses support MTEC in its mission of developing tourism related programs for our high school students,” said MTEC chair Vicky Benavente.
Major sponsors DFS T-Galleria, the Tan Siu Lin Foundation, and the Hyatt Regency Saipan have all stepped forward to support this year’s event. The Bank of Guam, IP&E, Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan, Marianas Variety and the Sorensen Media Group-Power 99 lend their support as classic sponsors.
Hole-in-one sponsors Pacifica Insurance and Triple J Motors have put forth fantastic prizes (cash and cars), while the Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands (HANMI), First Hawaiian Bank, Pacific Islands Club Saipan, MARPAC, and the Bank of Saipan have come on board as classic contributors. More sponsors and contributors are expected over the couple of weeks.
“We must continue to support MTEC and the My WAVE Clubs as they have a direct impact on our student community and the tourism industry,” tournament director James Nelson said.
This year’s entry fee is $100 and includes cart and green fees, morning snacks, free flowing on-course refreshments and awards banquet. Participants can also look forward to the nearest to the pin and longest drive competitions, as well as the ever popular hot-dog stand out on the course.
Entry forms are available and payments are accepted at MVA and Laolao Bay Golf & Resort. Golfers are encouraged to register as soon as possible as slots are filling up fast and only 144 players can be accommodated. Registration deadline is Aug. 29 at 5pm. (PR)
