A 42-year-old man was injured when his friend, whom he had invited to his house for a drinking session, allegedly beat him up during an argument over work in Lower Navy Hill Sunday night.

When a police officer responded to the scene, the victim’s right eye was swollen and had blood surrounding the eyelid. Blood was also dripping down his nose. Medics brought him to the Commonwealth Health Center.

The suspect, Aunik Mondal, 43, was arrested for assault and battery. He was taken Monday before Superior Court Associate Judge Wesley Bogdan, who imposed a bail of $2,500 in an unsecured bond.

According to police, the victim stated that he had invited Mondal to his house to drink beer. An argument arose as they were drinking. Mondal then allegedly punched the victim in the face. The victim’s cousin tried to prevent the fight from escalating but Mondal allegedly kept punching the victim.

Another man came out from the house and held Mondal, who threatened that he would kill the victim.

Someone then called the police.
