Human skull found underwater near Garapan Fishing Base
The Department of Public Safety’s Boating Safety Unit officers recovered yesterday afternoon a human skull found underwater near the Garapan Fishing Base.
A diver with Aquasmith Pacific reported the find to DPS, saying he discovered the skull on Tuesday at 4pm, according to DPS spokesperson Jacqueline Rae.
Rae said the diver was on a spear fishing tour with a client when they approached an underwater wreckage. About 75 feet to 100 feet from the wreckage, the diver noticed what he initially believed to be a rock.
When the diver attempted to pick it up, the current shifted, causing him to notice it was actually a human skull.
The diver notified DPS and yesterday at 2pm, he accompanied the Boating Safety officers to the Garapan Fishing Base and guided the officers to where he saw the skull.
Rae said the officers will search for any additional remains and thoroughly canvas the area.
“In the meantime, officials will process the skill to determine its origin,” Rae said.
