Andrew L. Orsini has officially declared his candidacy for the one vacant seat in the State Board of Education Saipan, for this upcoming general election on Nov.6, 2018.
Orsini filed papers with the Commonwealth Election Commission last week Friday.
Orsini, the former human resource manager of the Commonwealth Utilities Corp., seeks to “advance and broaden the educational pursuits for all the CNMI students who will be the next generational leaders in our great Commonwealth.”
“In this highly technological era, preparing our children for the challenges in the world labor market is very competitive,” said Orsini in a statement yesterday. “We need to improvise and harness in our children’s education and beginning right here at home.”
Orsini said the CNMI has been good to him and his family, and he wants to contribute and give back to the community by helping CNMI children educationally, prepare them for their future and in the world labor market.
His campaign slogan is “A Better Education for a Better Economy.”
With the passage of a federal law that has extended the foreign worker program for 10 more years, believes that PSS should prepare transitioning students by establishing and building “our own local labor workforce.”
“Ten more years is a very short time” and Orsini believes the CNMI should collaborate with the Department of Labor, Northern Marianas Trades Institute, Northern Marianas College, and other private industries.
“It is through this type of concerted effort that our own locally grown labor workforce will be made and be readily available by the time our dependence on foreign labor in the Commonwealth has ceased,” he said. (PR)
