Students of Kokusai Seishonen Kenshu Kyokai called on Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang last Friday as part of the mayor’s office’s cultural student exchange program.

A total of 12 Japanese students ranging in age from 9 to 12 years old and two coordinators— Naoko Matsumoto and Yasuyo Ichihara—comprised the group.

The KSKK students and their chaperones arrived on Saipan early Friday and immediately went to the mayor’s office where they exchanged pleasantries with Apatang and his staff.

As a symbol of their appreciation on being invited to Saipan, the KSKK students gave Apatang a rice cooker.

The group then went on a tour, visiting the island’s top tourist sites such as Banzai Cliff, Suicide Cliff, The Last Command Post, and the American Memorial Park.

Seven host families waited at the mayor’s office lobby to pick up the KSKK students. All of them have plans in store for the KSKK students to make their stay on Saipan even more enjoyable. The group leaves tomorrow, Aug. 7.
