BREAKING NEWS: Still Tropical Storm Condition II in NMI

A tropical storm warning remains in effect for Agrihan, Pagan, and Alamagan in the northern CNMI. Tropical storm conditions, including frequent wind gusts of 39 mph or more, are expected through tonight.

 

At 10pm tonight, Typhoon Shanshan had maximum sustained winds of 75 miles per hour.

 

It was about 265 miles northeast of Agrihan, about 300 miles north-northeast of Pagan, about 325 miles north-northeast of Alamagan, about 495 miles north-northeast of Saipan, about 625 miles north-northeast of Guam

 

At 10pm tonight, Typhoon Shanshan is moving north-northwest at 9 mph. This general motion is anticipated through Monday. Typhoon Shanshan is forecast to gradually intensify through Monday.

 

Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 190 miles to the south and up to 165 miles to the north of the center. Agrihan, Pagan, and Alamagan in the northern CNMI could experience frequent gusts of damaging winds associated with the monsoon band feeding into Shanshan through tonight.

 

Because of the anticipated threat of Typhoon Shanshan, Gov. Ralph DLG Torres has maintained Tropical Storm Condition II for the islands of Agrihan, Pagan, and Alamagan as of 11:30pm this evening.

 

Tropical Storm Condition II means that damaging winds of 39 to 74 mph are possible within 24 hours.

 

The CNMI Emergency Operations Center State Warning Point will be monitoring the movement of Typhoon Shanshan and will be issuing out bulletins as they become available. Keep a close watch on updates to weather forecasts and stay informed on the latest statements and advisories, which will be available through local media sources and NOAA weather radio broadcast on 162.5 megahertz, or call CNMI EOC State Warning Point at 237-8000 or 664-8000, and for the Northern Islands to contact CNMI EOC State Warning Point at high frequency single side band radio on frequency 5.205.0.

The next scheduled bulletin will be issued by the National Weather Service at 2am early Sunday morning, followed by an intermediate bulletin at 5am. (PR)
