8 NMC students complete summer nursing program
Eight Northern Marianas College students recently received their certificates of completion of the Nursing Assistant Certificate Program. Eight Northern Marianas College students completed the six-week Nursing Assistant Training Program yesterday and received their certificates of completion in a ceremony attended by NMC leaders and the students’ families.
The certificate program prepares entry-level nursing assistants to provide basic nursing care to the elderly, ill, and persons with disabilities in long-term care, hospitals, clinics, schools, and home health settings.
“We are very proud of the students who have successfully completed this six-week intensive program,” said NMC president Dr. Carmen Fernandez. “Their training will help to expand local nursing workforce capacity.”
The students’ successful completion of the Nursing Assistant Certificate Program makes them eligible to take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program Competency Examination through the Northern Mariana Islands Board of Nursing.
Once the students pass this exam, the board will license them as Certified Nursing Assistants and they will be placed on the NMI Board of Nursing Registry for nursing assistants. They can practice as a CNA in the CNMI or U.S. mainland.
Rosa Tudela, NMC Nursing Department chair, encouraged the students to continue their training and pursue their associate and bachelor’s degree in nursing.
“These students are all very promising and I look forward to seeing them as they help patients in our local health care facilities,” said Tudela. (NMC)
