Rotary Club to donate $1K to sister club in Tokyo

The Rotary Club of Saipan will be providing financial and manpower services to the Rotary Club of Tokyo-Haichio South after back-to-back severe flooding and an intense heat wave battered the western part of Japan.
The local Rotary Club’s president, Greg Borja, said he wants the organization to initially donate $1,000 to their sister club in Tokyo.
He said he was recently contacted by Rotary Club of Tokyo-Haichio South president Yuzaburo Mogi, who appealed for help in behalf of the people affected by the recent flooding and the current heat wave.
“Their club is doing okay but all Japanese Rotary clubs are basically trying to provide services to all those affected areas and throughout their country. Any support that we [extend] like financial or what not [will be appreciated]. There is going to be rebuilding involved from the floods and what not,” he said during the Rotary Club of Saipan meeting last Tuesday at the Hyatt Regency Saipan.
Borja said he wants to extend help to the Rotary Club of Tokyo-Haichio South since it donated $2,000 to the Rotary Club of Saipan after Typhoon Soudelor smashed the island in 2015 to assist in its recovery and restoration.
Last June, heavy rain in western Japan created landslides and floods that reportedly killed 225 people while 13 are still missing. A current heat wave has also so far killed 77 more people and sending 30,000 of them to the hospital.
