IPI: We’re in strict compliance with OSHA

Imperial Pacific International (CNMI) LLC said construction work at its Imperial Pacific Resort site in Garapan is in strict adherence to Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines and other appropriate federal laws and regulations to ensure the continued promotion of a safe and healthy working environment.

In a statement following calls for the creation of a new board to oversee its operations, the Hong Kong-based company said it has a proven record of continued partnership with major companies that have sound and strong safety records, to include Pacific Rim Constructors, wherein compliance with all of workplace safety regulations is a key factor for selection.

To further reinforce safety compliance at the construction site, Imperial Pacific said it has also tapped the technical expertise of an independent construction manager before and a safety consultant that specializes in safety management.

Imperial Pacific also said that since the start of its construction, OSHA officers had been routinely conducting inspection visits at the site.

Imperial Pacific said it trusts Pacific Rim that optimum safety management and performance is delivered.

“As Imperial Pacific reaffirms its commitment of maintaining a high safety performance—we understand the rate of construction-related incidents in our development is lower than the average incidents rate in the United States—the company will continue to genuinely endeavor to ensure our contractors to maintain a safe working environment to all workers of different nationalities and culture,” its statement read.

Imperial Pacific also said it strongly believes that there is already a well-established workplace health and safety laws and regulations that are aggressively enforced by local and federal agencies specifically created with the sole purpose of ensuring every workers’ safety and wellbeing.

Last Monday, Sen. Paul Manglona (R-Rota) recommended to members of the Lottery Commission and Commonwealth Casino Commission the creation of a separate board to oversee the casino.

Manglona suggests that the government set up an independent monitoring mechanism—funded by Imperial Pacific—to ensure compliance with labor and safety regulations of the casino licensee and their contractors. (PR)
