Dotts starts cross-examining Kim

Businesswoman Jung Ja Kim was grilled yesterday by the lawyer of the Quichocho couple and their company that she is suing for racketeering.

Michael Dotts cross-examined Kim after Guam lawyer David J. Lujan completed yesterday his cross-examination of Guam assistant attorney general Benjamin M. Abrams.

Abrams testified as an expert witness for Kim in the latter’s racketeering lawsuit against attorney Ramon K. Quichocho, his wife Frances, the Quichocho law firm, and the couple’s Karissa LLC company.

Dotts will continue questioning Kim when trial resumes today, Thursday, in the U.S. District Court for the NMI.

At the hearing yesterday afternoon, Dotts showed, among other documents, Kim’s loan application with the Bank of Saipan in February 2008 in which she indicated that her former husband was vice president of her company.

Dotts pointed out that Kim stated in the loan application that her former husband is her spouse.

Kim replied that it was wrong, that’s why she withdrew the loan application. She also stated it was Quichocho’s fault because he was the one who prepared the document.

Kim said she got the divorce decree in June 2005.

Dotts showed a court document after 2005 in which Kim told a Superior Court judge she was married.

Kim said Quichocho prepared the document and that it was wrong because she did not remarry her former husband.

Kim agreed with Dotts that it was not true that she went to Quichocho in March 2007 to process some papers to protect her assets from her former husband because at that time they had reconciled.

Kim also stated that she paid $25,000 cash in April 2008 as bail for the release of her former husband, who at that time was facing prosecution for alleged illegal gambling at a hotel.
