CGC conducts beach cleanup
The Community Guidance Center held its first-ever beach cleanup last Friday starting from the back of the TSL Plaza to the posterior of the Lollipops apartment building.
About 50 CGC employees, led by psychologist and clinical services officer Glenda S. George Benavente, took part on the beach cleanup and they were able to collect seven trash bags full of garbage.
The CGC was divided into their departments during the cleanup—Wellness Program, Prevention Services Unit, Recovery Unit, Systems of Care, and Garrett Lee Suicide Prevention.
Benavente thanked everyone at CGC for taking part in the beach cleanup.
“It is to care for your community and social responsibility and this is our way of giving back to our community and taking care of each other,” he said.
CGC director Nadine Sablan said the beach cleanup activity will also allow her division to improve camaraderie.
“Our division means to foster collaboration among our staff and help them work as a team. It is very important for our resilience and our community. We need it in our community,” she said.
The trash collected was mostly made up of beer cans and cigarettes scattered across the beach and tree lines. Benavente said she was disheartened that some people litter the shores despite this being island.
Benavente said CGC intends on holding more beach cleanups at other beach locations in the future and wishes for Saipan residents to be considerate in throwing their trash.
