A new date has been set for Gov. Ralph DLG Torres’ State of the Commonwealth Address.

During a session yesterday afternoon, the Senate adopted Senate Joint Resolution 20-06 that sets the date of Torres’ annual address on Aug. 16, 2018, at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center at 10am.

Sen. Sixto K. Igisomar (R-Saipan) was absent from the session.

The Torres administration previously announced that the address would be held on July 27, 2018, and then moved it to Aug. 2, 2018.

“Some of the members had scheduling problems,” said Senate President Arnold I. Palacios (R-Saipan) yesterday. “We have some senators that would be off-island, so we set it on Aug. 16.”

Palacios noted, however, that the availability of the 20 members of the House of Representatives would still be considered. The House would have to concur with S.J.R. 20-06 before the Aug. 16, 2018 date is finalized.

The 2017 Commonwealth address was held at the same venue on March 31, 2017.
