OPA disowns chart comparing political bets
The Office of the Public Auditor issued a press release yesterday dispelling ownership of a chart that compares the performances of gubernatorial candidates and allegedly issued by the office.
According to the press release that was signed by public auditor Michael Pai, “[OPA] has received numerous inquiries regarding a chart appearing on social media in support of certain political candidates. The chart compares the performance of certain gubernatorial regimes in several benchmark categories and cites as its source ‘CNMI Office of the Public Auditor.’ Because of these inquiries and the fundamental importance of political abstinence by this office, OPA presents this press release to dispel any public misconception about the referenced chart.
“OPA did not prepare the chart appearing in social media referencing OPA as its source. The information contained within the chart is such financial information that might be obtained from the annual CNMI single audit reports commissioned by OPA and OPA’s annual reports. These reports are public records available on OPA’s website. OPA has not reviewed the accuracy of the financial information in the chart.” (Saipan Tribune)
