SSHS students, parents’ orientation

Saipan Southern High School will have its school year 2018-2019 orientation for students and parents on Aug. 7. For 9th graders and new students, it will be at 9am; all returning students will be at 1:30pm. (PR)

SVES students, parents’ orientation

San Vicente Elementary School will have its students and parent orientation on Aug. 3, 2018, at the cafeteria. Students with last names from A to M will have their orientation at 9am; student whose last names are from N to Z will have their orientation at 1:30pm. All new and ongoing SVS students and parents must attend to obtain important information regarding the new school year. (PR)

SVES sets open house

San Vicente Elementary School will have an open house on Friday, Aug. 17, 2018, from 5pm to 6pm, in your child’s classroom. All new and ongoing SVS students and parents should attend to meet with your child’s teacher and learn about the expectations set for the school year for both student and parent.

We are still accepting registrations for new and ongoing students. If parents have not registered their child yet, we encourage parents to do so as soon as possible to ensure they are placed on the roster on the first day of school, which is Aug. 15.

NMC info sessions next week

Individuals interested in furthering their education or expanding their income potential are encouraged to attend one of two Northern Marianas College information sessions next week.  The first session will be on Tuesday, July 31, 2018, and the second session will be held on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2018. The sessions will cover topics that include degree programs, financial aid options, the Prior Learning Assessment program, admissions, and other topics.  Both info sessions will be held from 5:30pm to 6:30pm at NMC’s Cafe Proa, located at the college’s As Terlaje campus. Cafe Proa is located near the NMC Bookstore. Roundtrip shuttle service will be provided from Tanapag and Kagman on each day that the info session is held. Pick up times from Tanapag Middle School and the Kagman Market will be at 4:30pm, and the return dropoff time from NMC back to Tanapag and Kagman will be at 7pm. SHRM sets July meeting today

The Society for Human Resource Management NMI Chapter will have a general membership meeting today, July 26, 2018, at the Pacific Islands Club Charley’s Charley’s Cabaret, from 11:30am to 1:30pm. The meeting will feature assistant attorney general Bobbi Cepeda, who will discuss employer obligations under the newly-enacted CNMI Public Law 20-60 “State Directory of New Hires.” The presentation includes the PIC lunch buffet at the cost of $20 for SHRM members and $30 for non-members.  Seats are limited, so reserve your seat by contacting Penny Jones by e-mail at penelope.jones@hyatt.com or Denise Montenegro at denise.montenegro@hyatt.com or by telephone at 323-5867/68. 

SSHS registration deadline

The last day to turn in registration for all students at Saipan Southern High School will be on July 31, 2018, Tuesday. All students must turn in their registrations by this date. Required documents must be copied before turning in.  If there is any other information or question, call the main office at 664-4000. Office hours are Monday-Friday from 7:30am to 4:30pm. (PR)

Chamber meeting on Aug. 1

The Saipan Chamber of Commerce will have its general membership meeting in August on Aug. 1 at Charley’s of the Pacific Islands Club at noon. The guest speakers will be Labor Secretary Vicky Benavente, who will share updates from her agency regarding the workforce, employment numbers, and new projects; and Kanae Quinn and Wendi Herring, directors on the Make A Wish Foundation board, to speak about the good deeds of this organization in granting wishes for children in need.
