Marianas Visitors Authority managing director Christopher A. Concepcion said this coming September’s International Festival of Cultures will also highlight the islands’ diversity.

The three-day celebration, which will be held from Sept. 21 to 23 at the Paseo de Marianas, will feature the indigenous Chamorro and Carolinian cultures; the culture of the rest of Micronesia like Palau, Yap, Chuuk, Kosrae, and the Marshall Islands; Polynesia, Hawaii, Samoa; and some of the Asian cultures that have thrived in the Commonwealth like Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Philippines, Bangladesh, and many others.

Concepcion also pinpointed that there will be booths representing each culture and promoting and educating on “what there culture is all about” to the CNMI community.

“Some of them serve food, sell food, some of them do arts and crafts, and some of them do performances,” he added.

Last year, the International Festival of Cultures was held at the Garapan Fishing Base where 11 different cultural communities exhibited their traditional customs such as food, clothing, and adornments.

Concepcion said the Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture Arts Council will be collaborating with MVA for the event.

“They are tasked with arts and culture so they will be obviously supporting this event,” he said.
