Tinian, Rota vets to avail Telehealth services

The Veterans Affairs Pacific Islands Health Care System has partnered with the Tinian and Rota health centers in order to provide Relehealth services to the veterans of both islands in the CNMI.

The Honolulu-based healthcare services provider to veterans in the Pacific Islands understands the need of addressing the challenges faced by CNMI veterans in accessing VE services, which are limited.

The VAPIHCS saw the emerging Telehealth services technology as a viable tool in expanding the reach of its clinical services to veterans in Tinian and Rota.

VAPIHCS signed separate memorandum of agreements to THC and RHC to extend and provide telehealth services and equipment to both islands.

“VAPIHCS has provided the equipment and tools necessary to implement Telehealth services from the THC and RHC,” said the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. in a statement.

“In exchange, [THC and RHC] are responsible for providing a designated space for the equipment and Telehealth appointments, clinical staff to prepare the patients for the virtual consultation, as well as upkeep of the equipment.”

THC had already received the EX90 Telehealth device from VAPIHCS last month and has already connected the device with those of the VA mental health providers in Hawaii.

The EX90 gives real-time interaction with the patient and a VA physician using video conferencing.

Primary care, mental health, and clinical pharmacy specialist services are the clinical services included in the said Telehealth service.

THC hopes to go live with their Telehealth services using the EX90 device within this month while RHC’s device is due to arrive before the end of the week.
