Independent candidate from precinct 4 files candidacy

Sheila Therese Jack Babauta filed her candidacy as an independent at the Commonwealth Election Commission yesterday morning. She hopes to represent the people of precinct 4 in the House of Representatives, 21st CNMI Legislature.

Surrounded by supportive family, friends, and voters, Babauta says she is excited for this upcoming election as voters will have more options to choose from.

“I am young, passionate, and ready to serve my islands on a larger platform. Our strength is in the community, and with your vote of confidence, I will continue to work with the community to improve our villages and raise our children in a safe and healthy environment.”

Babauta’s vision for precinct 4 is based on the values of “Respect, Integrity, Service, and Empowerment” or RISE. She defines RISE as “Respect for our land, culture, and community through planned development. Integrity through transparent, regular, and accessible communication. Service through opportunities for our village residents that strengthen community relationships and the heart of our villages. Empowerment through education that supports our youth, health and well-being, small business, and higher education programs.”

After receiving encouragement from her family and peers to run this election, Babauta is humbled to submit her candidacy for the precinct that raised her. “It is time we take responsibility and do our part to contribute to a better CNMI. It is time we RISE together.”

Babauta is a Saipan native and board member of the Marianas Young Professionals organization and the Million Dollar Scholars Program.

In Babauta’s role as a board member, she was instrumental in planning the annual MYPros March for H.E.R.S. during Women’s Month, and the Scholars Beach BBQ where mentors shared educational experiences with young scholars. Additionally, Babauta is an active member of the Talaabwogh Star Association as co-captain for the 2018 Marianas March Against Cancer.

Babauta holds bachelor’s degrees in Finance and International Business from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

She completed two internships with Merrill Lynch Wealth Management & UMEE Honolulu and was inducted to three honor societies: Golden Key International HS, Phi Theta Kappa HS, and Beta Gamma Sigma International HS before graduating with honors in 2011.

Babauta continued her career in financial management with Raymond James Financial Services in Washington before returning home in 2016.
