Bordallo announces $15.6M for Guam children with disabilities
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo announced $15.6 million for Guam’s students and youngsters with developmental disabilities, awarded by the U.S. Department of Education. This federal funding will help the Guam Department of Education provide the necessary in-school services and accommodations for students with developmental disabilities, including those with learning disabilities. This new federal funding award will also support infants and toddlers with developmental disabilities and their families.
Each year, Bordallo works to safeguard Guam’s share of federal funding from the U.S. Department of Education, awarded under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. This funding provides essential federal support and services for our island’s students with developmental disabilities and their families that they would not otherwise receive, given GovGuam’s budgetary constraints.

“Our special needs students have the same right to public education as their peers. I am pleased to announce this much-needed federal funding, so that our island’s K-12 students and youngsters with developmental disabilities get the support they deserve,” said Bordallo.
“As the daughter of a schoolteacher, the education of our island’s next generation, including those with disabilities, remains a high priority for me, as it should be for all of Guam’s elected officials. In addition to this recent $15.6 million award, I continue working to secure additional federal funding to address GDOE’s budget challenges,” she added. (PR)
