Dean Vincent Manglona and Maryann A. Manglona are newly minted Certified Public Accountants in Guam. The brother-and-sister duo, originally from Rota, passed the rigorous four-part Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination.

Dean, an associate attorney at Guam’s Civille & Tang, PLLC law office, earned a B.S. in Accounting from Marquette University in 2005 and received his J.D. from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 2008. He is admitted to practice law in New Mexico, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, the U.S. District Court for the Northern Mariana Islands, the District Court of Guam, and the U.S. Tax Court. He previously worked as a staff attorney at the Guam Supreme Court.

He said the CPA examination process was not an easy one, “Working full-time as an attorney and studying after work was a true challenge. But it has always been my goal to become a licensed attorney and a Certified Public Accountant.” He added, “I enjoy the interplay between financial and legal principles.”

Maryann earned a B.S. in Business Administration as an Accounting Major at Marquette University in 2007. Since 2013, she has worked at the Department of Revenue and Taxation in Guam as a Revenue Agent. She previously worked as a senior auditor at Ernst & Young LLP.

Maryann explained that studying for the exam was a huge time commitment. “I spent many, many hours preparing for the exam, going through hundreds of practice questions. The sacrifice was definitely worth it,” she said.

She noted that the success would not be possible without the support of her loved ones. “I can’t thank my family enough for their unwavering support and encouragement throughout the entire process. My mother Benita, who is also a CPA, provided much inspiration,” she added. (PR)
