Six gubernatorial and mayoral appointments were confirmed last week as the Senate convened in a session in the Senate Chamber on Capitol Hill.
The Senate unanimously confirmed six appointments of several commissions and boards in their June 28, 2018 session on Capitol Hill.
The Senate committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigations, chaired by Sen. Francisco Cruz (R-Tinian), reported in the affirmative the reappointments of Michaela U. Sanchez to the Northern Marianas College Board of Regents representing Tinian; Marian Aldan Pierce as a member of the Marianas Visitors Authority representing Saipan; Weston Thomas Deleon Guerrero as Commonwealth Utilities Corp. board of directors representing Saipan; and Elaine Orilla to serve as the NMC bBoard of Regents representing Rota.
The committee also reported on the confirmation of the appointment of Commonwealth Election Commission appointee Vicente T. King representing Tinian and the appointment of Vinny Hocog as a member of the Commonwealth Development Authority board of directors representing Rota. Both King and Hocog are first-time appointees to their respective boards.
The committee noted that they did not see any reason to deny all of the appointments.
During the session, Cruz further noted that the committee would continue holding public hearings for the appointments of Barry Toves to the Commonwealth Ports Authority representing Rota, Roy Reyes to the Board of Professional Licensing, Raymond Muna to the Civil Service Commission representing Saipan, and Jacinta Kaipat to the MVA board representing Saipan.
