BREAKING NEWS: 10W upgraded to Tropical Storm Maria

Tropical Depression 10W has been upgraded to Tropical Storm Maria early this morning with widespread heavy showers and damaging winds being observed across all of Rota and neighboring Guam so far.

Due to the anticipated threat of Tropical Storm Maria and its maximum sustained winds of 65 mph, Gov. Ralph DLG Torres has maintained Tropical Storm Condition II for the island of Rota and Tropical Storm Condition III for the islands of Saipan and Tinian as of 5am this morning.

The latest bulletin from the U.S. National Weather Service Guam reported Tropical Storm Maria about 40 miles south-southwest of Rota, about 105 miles south-southwest of Tinian, and about 120 miles south-southwest of Saipan.

NWS cautioned the public to void being out on the streets through late morning. Debris has been reported on many streets with more streets flooded with standing water from heavy showers overnight. These conditions, along with very limited visibility, creates hazardous driving conditions.
