Libut leads MTB Race finishers

J.C. Libut prevailed in a down-to-the-wire finish against Joel Buco to emerge as the overall winner in the Northern Mariana Islands Cycling Federation MTB Race held yesterday in Marpi.

Libut completed the race that started and ended at the Last Command Post with bikers going through Banzai Trail, Cowtown, and the Landfill (four laps) in 1:01:40, just a second ahead of Buco. Charlie Sendin rounded out the Top 3 after making it to the finish line at the 1:01:50 mark.

Meanwhile, five other bikers topped their respective age groups: Angelo Cristobal, Ding Ramos, Norlo Jacosalem, Flore Derexes, and Kimiko McKagan.

Cristobal ruled the 40 and below category after submitting 1:13:57. He reached the finish line about three minutes faster than Ernie Henson, who clocked in at 1:16:12. Louie Oria was ranked third after posting 1:21:14.

In the 40 to 49 division, Ramos logged 1:05:01 to prevail against Rusty Valino and Hernan Cristobal, who registered 1:06:06 and 1:10:14, respectively. McKagan was the lone entry in the women’s field and timed in at 1:18:56.

In the 50 to 54 age group, Jacosalem made it to the finish line more than a minute ahead of Noe Valdisimo with the former recording 1:03:24 against the latter’s 1:05:01. Cesar Fortaleza was not far behind Valdisimo after posting 1:05:07.

In the over 55 division, Derexes timed in at 1:14:19 to beat Ponce Corotan, who submitted 1:16:00. Florence Antonio came in at third with his 1:16:47.

The Top 3 finishers in each division were awarded with medals and gift certificates.
