Rota police academy has 17 cadets

The Rota Department of Public Safety’s first police academy has managed to draw 17 police cadets, two cadets for the Division of Fish and Wildlife, and three for the Division of Customs.
Rota DPS director Eusebio Manglona said they are just waiting for the Northern Marianas College to have the academy training accredited.
“We hired already but we’re just doing the administrative side,” Manglona said, adding that they began the so-called pre-academy last week.
He disclosed that the two cadets for the Division of Fish and Wildlife are already there and that they are just waiting for the three cadets for Customs.
Manglona said this is the first time in CNMI history that DPS Rota will have its own academy and with such a large number of cadets.
After graduation, the cadets’ on-the-job training will be at Rota DPS, not Saipan DPS.
As for the academy’s instructors, he said they have certified instructors from NMC and that the Office of the Attorney General will also bring their prosecutor to Rota.
He said the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services on Saipan will also send instructors and first responders for hazardous materials training.
Manglona said they are thankful to Gov. Ralph DLG. Torres for helping them to provide more employees, technically referred to as FTEs, or full-time employees.
When asked why they have such a large number of police cadets for a small island, Manglona said: “It’s better to be prepared for anything.”
Including Manglona, Rota DPS currently has 31 police officers.
