Civic Center court undergoes repairs

The Civic Center basketball court began undergoing repairs yesterday.

House Speaker Rafael Demapan announced the basketball (R-Saipan) court’s renovation in a statement dated June 25. It is being done as a community project in partnership with Rep. John Paul Sablan (R-Saipan).

Demapan noted that the fence around the court would be replaced; the concrete bleachers repaired; bleacher sheltering installed; and LED lights installed.

According to him, funding for the renovation originated from the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation, which Sablan chairs. He noted that the project would take a “few months” to complete.

The Civic Center basketball court acts as venue for several sporting events such as the Civic Center inter-color basketball league as well as venues for other activities such as the 2018 Flame Tree Arts Festival hosted by the Department of Cultural and Community Affairs.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding as we complete this project and thank you also for your continued support and contribution in maintaining the upkeep and cleanliness of the area in order for our residents, children, and visitors to enjoy,” said Demapan in a public service announcement.
