Haze from Mount Kilauea reaches Marianas anew
Volcanic haze produced by Mount Kilauea in Hawaii has reached the Marianas again and is expected to linger across the area for much of the week, according to the latest advisory from the National Weather Service in Guam.
According to NWS, the haze will decrease at times due to showers periodically developing between the Marianas and Hawaii, but easterly trades will continue to funnel the channel of haze toward the Marianas that will reduce visibility across the region.
“While this haze is not expected to cause widespread health problems, if you have a respiratory health issue you should limit outdoor activities until the haze reduces or dissipates,” according to the advisory.
Listen for any additional advisories from local health agencies or the NWS.
Unless the haze density significantly increases, NWS said this will be the only statement issued for this haze episode. Kilauea remains quite active and will continue to produce haze that will affect the region at times during the coming weeks or months. NWS statements will be issued as needed. (Saipan Tribune)
