Chowtime advanced to the title game in the 2018 Civic Center Inter-color Basketball League after beating Islanders, 69-65, last Sunday at the Civic Center court.

Chowtime took control of majority of their semis game and then withstood Islander’s fourth-quarter rally to clinch the second finals ticket in the 18-team field. Saipan Vegas notched the other finals berth after downing I-Secure in their semis duel last weekend, 69-59.

Mark Monteverde dropped 9 of his total points in the fourth canto with his baskets keeping Chowtime in front and foiling Islander’s repeated comeback bids. Jawn Joyner and Jomac Manzano also contributed to Chowtime’s cause in the final canto, combining for 9 points, while Mark Asuhan, Tan Broncano and Jess Pineda made one field goal apiece to offset the 31-point explosion of Islander.

Islander had to rally in the fourth frame, as it faced a 34-47 deficit at the end of the third canto. Chowtime, which led by 10 at the break, 35-25, made it a baker’s dozen advantage after three periods as it allowed only two Islanders players to score in the penultimate quarter.

Getz Jandoc registered 7 points for Islander, while Sean Rabasto drilled the other field goal for the losing squad. In contrast, five players hit the board for Chowtime in the third canto with Manzano leading the way for his squad after recording 6 points and making up for a scoreless first half.

Down, but definitely out, Jandoc, Rabasto, Jack Aranda, and Paulo Rafols tried to bring Islander back into the game in the final period. However, they fell short, as Demonteverde hit timely baskets for Chowtime to tow his squad to the finals.

The Chowtime-Saipan Vegas title duel is originally set for this Sunday, but will be rescheduled on a later date as the Civic Center court is undergoing repairs.

Chowtime 69 — Demonteverde 15, Joyner 11, Broncano 11, Manzano 11, Pineda 9, Rivera 6, Danipog 4, Asuhan 4, Ariab 2, Tolosa 2.

Islander 65— Jandoc 17, Rafols 15, Rabasto 10, Aranda 9, De Guzman 8, Ibag 4.

Scoring by quarters: 19-14, 35-35, 47-34, 69-65.
