Registration drive at 14 places nets 427 voters
CNMI registered voters now 17,657
The Commonwealth Election Commission’s voter registration drive at 14 different locations on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota has resulted in the registration of 427 individuals.
CEC acting executive director Kayla Igitol in an interview disclosed that with the new registrants, as of Tuesday there are now a total of 17,657 registered voters in the CNMI.
In the 2016 general election, there were a total of 17,928 registered voters in the CNMI.
Igitol also announced that starting July 7, CEC’s office in Susupe will open every Saturdays from 9am to 3pm to accommodate more persons who want to register.
Igitol said most people work from Monday to Friday and they want to give them opportunity to register before the Sept. 7 deadline.
The voter registration drive started last April 12 at the Fiesta Resort & Spa and at Kagman High School. The last drive was at the Northern Marianas College’s Cash for College program last Saturday.
The registration drive at Mount Carmel School set for last May 17 was canceled due to a power outage.
The general election will be on Nov. 6.
