The International University Sports Federation (FISU) will hold the 2012 FISU Forum from March 26 to 31 in Taipei, Taiwan.

Held every two years, the Forum is an opportunity for the students and officials from the university sports movement of the FISU member associations to meet each other. The Forum aims to offer the conditions for a meeting and exchange, associating culture and education with physical and sporting activities. The Forum provides an opportunity for students, teaching staff and sports leaders from different backgrounds to get to know and understand each other in order for participants to be enriched by all the different aspects of their diversity. The theme of this year’s Forum is “University Sport: A Platform for Sustainable Development.”

The Northern Marianas Amateur Sports Association (NMASA) is the member of FISU representing university sport in the Northern Mariana Islands. As a member of FISU, NMASA is entitled to send delegates to the 2012 FISU Forum.

NMASA, with the sponsorship of the FISU Forum Organizing Committee and the Oceania University Sports Association (OUSA), is able to send two student-delegates, one male and one female, to the 2012 Forum on a full scholarship basis. Airfare, airport transfers, registration charges, accommodation, and meals will be fully paid for.

NMASA invites applications from eligible students. Applicants must be (a) between the age of 17 and 27, inclusive; (b) citizen of the United States; (c) resident of the Northern Mariana Islands; and (d) full-time student at any high school or post-secondary institution.

Students who are selected must be willing to commit to being an active member of the OUSA Student Commission or the OUSA Gender Equity Commission.

Application forms can be obtained by contacting NMASA at mwhite@saipan.com. Completed applications must be submitted electronically to NMASA by Friday, Feb. 17, at 5pm.

The NMASA’s board of directors will select the student-delegates and its decision is final. (PR)
