There is no evidence that missing Chinese tourist Zhi Qiao left Rota from the island’s ports, according to Rota Department of Public Safety director Eusebio Manglona.

Manglona told Saipan Tribune yesterday that a police officer found Qiao’s rental car abandoned at the East Harbor or East Dock in Songsong last April 5.

Manglona said he has no other details yet as it was their operations officer who handles the investigation.

Saipan Tribune learned that the 27-year-old Qiao rented the vehicle from Islander Rent A Car.

DPS Saipan spokesperson Jacqueline Rae Shepard said there was no update on the case as of yesterday.

According to the tourist’s father, Qiao left China alone last March 6 for a vacation on Saipan. Upon his arrival, Qiao checked into the GT Guest House in Garapan. He checked out last March 25.

Qiao maintained contact with his parents in China and notified them that he was going to Rota on April 4.

The parents flew to Saipan last May 22 to look for their son. The father reported the matter to DPS headquarters in Susupe last May 30.
