Territories can now apply for coral reef grants
WASHINGTON—Doug Domenech, U.S. Department of the Interior Assistant Secretary for Insular and International Affairs, announced that the Coral Reef and Natural Resources Initiative is now open for applications from the U.S. insular areas.
The goal of the initiative is to improve the health of coral reef ecosystems and other natural resources in the U.S. insular areas for their long-term economic and social benefit. Priority will be given to projects that help the insular areas address a variety of threats to coral reef ecosystems, research into how sea level rise impacts coral reefs, and to combatting and eradicating aquatic and terrestrial plant, insect, and animal invasive species.
“Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke and I are both committed to protecting the natural resources of the island areas for their short and long-term benefit,” said Domenech. “Applications this year will be prioritized to protect coral reefs and combat invasive species.”
Applications for 2018 funding are encouraged and will be considered from insular government entities, educational institutions, or non-profit organizations whose grant proposal directly benefits the four U.S. territories or three freely associated states, in accordance with 2 CFR 200.
The deadline for submissions through grants.gov using CFDA# 15.875, is July 6, 2018. (PR)
