To wrap up Tourism Month, the Marianas Tourism Education Council, in conjunction with the Marianas Visitors Authority, recently named the five winners of the Marianas graphic design contest.

The winners of the 2nd Annual Marianas Graphic Design competition were awarded last May 26, on the final day of Taste of the Marianas.

Out of 42 competitors CNMI-wide, only five individuals were chosen. The first place winner was Dea Patio from Tinian Junior/Senior High School.

Patio’s entry featured Tinian’s pristine Taga Beach. According to her, she chose to feature the beach because not only is it the most popular beach on Tinian, but it is also extremely clean and natural.

Patio was awarded $300 and her web design will be used by MVA for its promotional materials.

Coming in at second place was Mary-Grace Cavas of Hopwood Middle School. Cavas’ web design was inspired by Saipan’s Suicide Cliff because of the history that is associated with the site and because it is a majestic site to see.

Cavas took home $200 and her work will be displayed by the MVA.

Third place winner Angela Barbo from Marianas High School featured Banzai Cliff in her graphic design entry. According to her, she was mesmerized by the beautiful Pacific Ocean below the cliff.

Barbo was awarded $100 and a chance to have her work displayed by MVA.

Fourth place winner Angel Lagunay from Tinian Junior/Senior High School captured the House of Taga and the latte stones located in Tinian’s San Jose village.

Lagunay was awarded $50 and a chance to have her work displayed by MVA.

Completing the Top 5 was Chareena Layugan from Hopwood Middle School. Layugan’s web design was inspired by Puntan Lagua on Saipan. According to her, the view is breathtaking and she wanted to share it with others.

Layugan was also awarded $50 and a chance to have her work displayed by MVA.
