Another robbery in Garapan
Car-riding robbers grabbed a bag from a woman who was walking with her boyfriend in Garapan Wednesday night.
The suspects got away with the victim’s bag that contained $200 in cash, two passports, two Chinese identification cards, and one credit card, according to the Department of Public Safety yesterday.
The victim, a 26-year-old Chinese national, was not injured.
DPS spokesperson Jacqueline Rae Shepard said that police received a call about a robbery in front of the Island Hotel in Garapan at 8:48pm.
Shepard said that, according to the victim, she and her boyfriend were walking back to their hotel room from I Love Saipan on Beach Road when the incident happened.
The victim’s bag was on her left arm, when a black sedan traveling east pulled up on her left side. Someone inside the car grabbed the victim’s bag while the car was still traveling.
The victim and her boyfriend chased the car on foot until they reached a rental car lot located near the Island Hotel. The two got into their car and tried to locate the suspects’ car.
The two lost sight of the suspects’ vehicle when it made a right turn on Filooris Avenue. The victims returned to the rental car lot and called the police.
“Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to contact DPS at 664-9001,” Shepard said.
Last May 21, a 42-year-old Asian woman was reportedly robbed of her purse containing cash and passport by an unidentified man at Beer and Chicken Restaurant in Garapan.
The suspect ran into a sedan and sped off. The victim was able to jot down the car’s license plate. As of yesterday, the suspect has yet to be arrested.
