The Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands donated $1,000 to the Northern Marianas Trades Institute in support of its programs.

During the 20th Annual Taste of the Marianas, HANMI chair Gloria Cavanagh announced that HANMI would like to support programs offered by NMTI such as the culinary program.

“It is something the hotel association really supports and others should support as well because the people that come out of this institution is actually our future,” she said.

According to Cavanagh, it is important to support NMTI for their efforts to train locals in critically needed professions.

“We need to train our local people to take over positions especially when it comes to culinary,” she said.

Cavanagh mentioned that due to the current issues the CNMI is facing with the CNMI-Only Transitional Workers visa, the CNMI is in need of local chefs to fill the need.

NMTI president Agnes McPhetres said that NMTI is always grateful when they receive donations from their partners.

“This $1,000 will take us a long way. Every donation, every penny that we receive from our partners help our students to continue with what they’re aspiring to be,” she said.
