Another former mayor has endorsed the candidacy of Ramon Blas “RB” Camacho and joined him in his campaign for Saipan mayor.

Former Saipan mayor Jose Camacho Sablan officially announced his support of Camacho’s candidacy during a small get-together consisting of Camacho’s supporters last Thursday.

According to Sablan, who was Saipan mayor from 1998 to 2002, he endorsed Camacho’s candidacy because of Camacho’s community service background and that he is Sablan’s former student.

“He is my former student and I have known him and all his past community service. He served the Department of Public Safety for more than 20 years, as well as the Northern Marianas Parole Board…He was a member of the Municipal Council,” he said.

Sablan said he has supported Camacho since his first attempt to run for mayor nearly four years ago and will continue to support him.

Camacho said he was honored to have another former mayor in his support system and is grateful for the faith they have in him.

Former acting mayor Marian Tudela had also announced back in March that she has decided not to run for mayor this November so she can support Camacho’s candidacy.

According to a previous article on the Saipan Tribune, Tudela was in the process of running for mayor in this year’s election. Tudela had already gotten in touch with former supporters and was already finalizing details forher campaign when she made the decision to step aside for Camacho’s candidacy.

Tudela served as acting mayor after the passing of late mayor Donald Flores back in 2014. She ran against David Apatang and nine others in the 2014 election year; she gained the support of about 3,000 to 4,000 voters. Tudela later withdrew to support Apatang.

Camacho is running for mayor as an independent candidate. He is one of two running for the position of mayor in this coming election. Apatang is running again.
