UFO denies ties to Maharlikan
The United Filipino Organization has denied any ties or association with another organization that is seeking a meeting with Filipino workers in the CNMI.
In a statement over the weekend, UFO, the umbrella organization of Filipino organizations in the CNMI, said that it “is not in any way connected and is not in coordination with the Maharlikan Saipan regarding the recent postings on their FB Page.”
The statement was attributed to UFO president Marlon Regaton.
Last Monday, May 14, the Maharlikan organization—a non-profit organization that purports to advocate for Filipinos under the CNMI-Only Transitional Worker program—said via Facebook that they would be holding a public meeting to address their plans to aid affected Filipino CW workers. The post claimed that UFO officers and Philippine honorary consul to the CNMI, Eli Arago, would be present at the meeting.
In the UFO statement, Regaton said “the recent issues/campaign against the Philippine Consulate in Guam, the invitation for an OFW meeting on May 24, 2018, at the American Memorial Park, and the form distribution & data gathering posted in the Maharlikan Saipan FB Page is of their own initiative and does not involve in any way the United Filipino Organizations, its officers, and the respective member organizations.”
Regaton urged everyone to “remain calm and be responsible in their social media postings to avoid unnecessary words that breed confusion. “It is in this time that we need to stand unified, not divided,” he added.
According to Regaton, the CW1 issues should be dealt with by proper authorities and to allow government initiatives to take its course. “While waiting for official updates and result, let us all continue to work responsibly in our respective jobs, and let us all pray for a favorable outcome for the betterment of each and everyone and the community we live in,” he said.
