Bomb threat causes massive traffic
No explosive found
Tenants at the Torres Brothers Building in Garapan were evacuated from the building after its front desk allegedly received a bomb threat Friday afternoon.
No explosive device was found, but the bomb scare snarled traffic on Chalan Pale Arnold for an hour as officers re-routed the traffic flow while clearing operation was being done.
Shortly before authorities reported “all clear,” police officers were seen across the Torres Brothers building interviewing some employees of the law office on the ground floor of the three-story building. The other tenants of the building were also evacuated while authorities were scouring the building for any bomb.
Derek Gersonde, spokesman of the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services, said that DPS 911 reported a bomb threat at the Torres Brothers building at 4:31pm.
Firefighters and hazardous materials personnel were dispatched to the scene.
Gersonde said the Commonwealth Ports Authority Police Explosives K9 reported the “all clear” at the building at 5:10pm.
A tenant told Saipan Tribune that it was a female front desk employee who received the bomb threat.
“When I came, there was a huge traffic and there were a lot of officers,” the tenant said.
There was no information available as to what the caller specifically stated in the call.
The staff of Torres Brothers law firm refused to comment. They reported back to their office after police told them that everything was clear.
As of yesterday, DPS has yet to release information about the incident.
