The House Ways and Means Committee intends to start budget hearings, starting with the Department of Labor, the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services, and the Department of Public Services.

Committee chair Rep. Angel A. Demapan (R-Saipan) said his committee would be meeting with DOL today at 9:30am, while DFEMS and DPS are set to meet with the committee on Thursday and Friday.

In a previous interview, Demapan told Saipan Tribune that his committee would meet with government agencies that are of utmost priority in the CNMI.

The projection for fiscal year 2019 places the budget at about $285.1 million, with over $167 million available for appropriation.
