Thunder Chicken opens Saipan location
The CNMI has been graced with an Asian restaurant franchise that seeks to please the palates of chicken lovers.
Thunder Chicken, a franchise originating in South Korea, has opened a branch on Middle Road, in Chalan Laulau, and aims to take the Commonwealth by storm with its chicken-infused dishes and prides itself in innovative and non-traditional styles of serving chicken.
Thunder Chicken first got its feet wet in Guam and it has now been brought to Saipan. The chicken joint officially opened its doors last Saturday, May 5.
According to Thunder Chicken manager Jung Gon Kim, Thunder Chicken is for those who want to have a taste of chicken in new, unique ways.
“Thunder Chicken is very popular in Korea. It’s a new style of chicken… they make many different kinds with different tastes,” he said.
What makes Thunder Chicken different from all the other chicken joints in the CNMI is their secret ingredients that are used to marinate their chicken an entire day.
“We have a special spice for our marinade. We also marinate 24 hours before—at least…we also have a machine to marinate and there is a special sauce from Korea that is our secret…we just have our own unique way of cooking our chicken,” he said.
Thunder Chicken is currently exclusive to chicken dishes, but hopes to expand their menu in the future to accommodate local tastes.
“We are focusing on the chicken now and then later on, we plan to add to our menu…In Korea, some franchises have pizza, too, so maybe later on,” he said.
The public can try up to nine different flavors of chicken at Thunder Chicken: the classic crispy fried chicken, fried chicken slathered in a sweet and spicy sauce, padak chicken, sweet soy sauce chicken, spicy chili fried chicken, fried chicken in a sweet onion sauce, fried chicken in a sweet garlic sauce, sunsal chicken slathered in sweet and spicy sauce, or just plain crispy sunsal chicken.
The standard price for one order is $20. That’s eight pieces of chicken. Thunder Chicken also has a special carry-out deal: two orders of any flavor of their delicious chicken is just $35.
Thunder Chicken is open everyday from 3pm to 11pm and caters to all age groups.
Thunder Chicken is currently in the process of expanding its facilities and adding a karaoke/party room for larger groups.
