Power interruptions on Saturday, Monday
There will be three scheduled power interruptions this Saturday, May 12, and one on Monday, May 14.
On Saturday, the first is what’s called sectionalized outage from 5am to 10am, affecting Chalan Pale Arnold Road in China Town. No water well or wastewater lift station will be affected. Two power poles will be replaced.
The next is a lateral power outage from 7am to 12pm, affecting Kopa Di Oru Street in Garapan. No water well or wastewater lift station will be affected. Four power poles will be replaced. Kopa Di Oru St. will be closed at this time.
The third power outage is from 2pm to 6pm, affecting the Ladera Center Building on Beach Road in Oleai. No water well or wastewater lift station will be affected. One power pole will be replaced.
On Monday, there will be a power outage from 7am to 1pm, affecting Alaihai Avenue in Garapan. No water well or wastewater lift station will be affected. Six power poles will be replaced. Alahai Avenue will be closed at this time.
The purpose of the power interruptions is to de-energize primary lines to allow the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. and its contractor, Primary Source Electric, to safely replace 13 wooden poles with concrete poles in China Town and in Garapan. The project tasks are part of an ongoing hazard mitigation project that entails the replacement of 787 wooden poles with concrete poles throughout Saipan.
Primary Source Electric was contracted by CUC to replace a total of 374 wooden poles with concrete poles.
Future public advisories indicating the date, time, and location of impending power interruptions will be made accordingly for public notification.
Because of the scale of work that will be performed, CUC asks travelers to take alternate routes or to exercise caution when driving through the affected areas.
