Rota DPS, DPW, CPA aid in Rota Centron Hustisia beautification
Last week, Rota Department of Public Safety and Department of Public Works employees began water blasting the Rota Centron Hustisia, preparing the building for the fresh coat of bright white paint that will soon cover its exterior walls.
The Centron Hustisia in Sinapalo has not been painted since it opened with its original beige hue in 2006.
The building is occupied by Superior Court staff and includes separate spaces for the attorney general and public defender’s offices. In recent years, one-half of the building was also occupied by the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, which moved out late last year and will soon be replaced by the Department of Public Safety. DPS will move into the building after air conditioners are installed.
“The Judiciary does not have maintenance staff stationed on Rota, so I immediately began searching for people after being assigned to supervise the project,” said Judiciary administrative specialist and special deputy clerk Michelle Atalig.
“Initially, we had one DPW employee to help in painting,” said Atalig. Seeing that more manpower was needed, she contacted DPS. Atalig was told one or two officers would be assigned, so she was surprised and impressed when several officers arrived at the courthouse ready to assist.
“We thank DPS acting resident director Raimundo Manglona for providing the personnel without hesitation,” said associate justice John A. Manglona. “We also thank DPW resident director Vanessa Charfauros for assigning employees to handle electrical work at the Centron Hustisia, as well assisting with the painting project.”
While the Judiciary purchased the paints and supplies for the project, Atalig had to contact different agencies for scaffolds and an additional water blaster. The Commonwealth Ports Authority provided the scaffolds needed to reach the upper portion of the building.
“It’s really nice that everyone has been willing to contribute and support,” said Atalig. It is anticipated that painting will be completed in late May. (PR)
