Rotary donates $1,500 to Wolfe duo
The Rotary Club of Saipan donated $1,500 to Dandan Middle School’s young talents, Lars Anthony and Jonathan Wolfe.
The Wolfe brothers will be representing the CNMI at the upcoming National Junior Speech and Debate Association national tournament, and the upcoming Thespian national tournament.
A few months back, the Wolfe duo bested competitors from various public and private middle schools in the NJSDA Regional championship and the Thespian Regional championships under the duo category. The duo placed first in both competitions.
Last Tuesday, the two were invited to perform a piece before the Rotary Club of Saipan during the club’s weekly meeting at the Hyatt Regency Saipan’s Giovanni restaurant.
The two performed an intense five-minute excerpt from the play Murder in the First. The Rotarians were so impressed with the performance that they decided to donate to the Wolfe duo for their competition in Fort Lauderdale, Florida this June.
“I’m really thankful, we both are. It’s very hard to go there if you have absolutely no one donating to you…it’s going to be hard because you don’t have enough money, so we’re really thankful that they gave us the donation. It’s going to make everything easier for us and we will surely put it to good use,” said Jonathan Wolfe.
“I really like how they support us and I like how they are happy about us going out and representing the CNMI…for that, I am going to push myself to make sure that we put on a good [show],” said Lars Wolfe.
According to Jonathan Wolfe, they started acting back when they were in elementary. “Our aunt was the one that got us into this…we didn’t know about the competition until she told us about it,” he said.
The two will be performing in the NJSDA national tournament from June 18 to 22 and then they will perform in the Thespian national tournament from June 25 to 30.
