Senate President Arnold Palacios (R-Saipan), Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. chief executive officer Esther Muna, and Community Guidance Center director Nadine Sablan led other officials Tuesday to officially open the new Systems of Care office in San Antonio.

At the same time, Palacios signed a proclamation declaring May as Children’s Mental Health Awareness Month.

Systems of Care or Hali’ Inaguaiya program manager Vina S. Ayuyu said since their program is focused on improving mental and behavioral health outcomes for children and youth, they recognize children’s mental health concerns throughout the year.

The events set to promote the Children’s Mental Health Awareness Month are the following: KKMP Radio Talk Show on May 3, 17, and 31 from 7:30am to 8:30am; Launch N’ Learn on May 16 from 8am to 2pm; and Family Expo on May 26 from 9am to 2pm at the Garapan Central Park. Other activities are to be announced.

The proclamation was followed by a ribbon cutting of the new Systems of Care office, part of the Community Guidance Center, which is under CHCC.

“The Systems of Care building is a product of a long plan, built on…helping this community, especially our children,” Muña said.

According to Ayuyu, the SOC program works closely with youth serving agencies. “The community can just walk in and either do a self-referral or refer someone who they believe can benefit from the services that we offer,” she said. “This program is open to all our residents and we also have the same programs on Tinian and Rota.”
