Public safety awareness month kicks off
The public safety awareness month of May kicked off yesterday with the signing of several proclamations by Gov. Ralph DLG. Torres and Lt. Gov. Victor B. Hocog at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe yesterday.
After the proclamation signing, the Department of Public Safety led a convoy of vehicles that traveled on Beach Road and other Saipan highways.
May 6 to 12 is CNMI Correctional Officers and Employees Week.
Torres and Hocog said Correctional officers and employees play a vital role in providing effective and efficient correctional services and programs to inmates and the community.
May 15 was declared Peace Officers’ Memorial Day, while May 13 to 19 was declared CNMI Police Week.
May 19 to 25 was proclaimed National Safe Boating Week and the start of the year-round effort to promote safe boating.
Torres and Hocog declared May 21 to June 3 as Click It or Ticket enforcement mobilization campaign period.
DPS said a seat belt survey in 2017 revealed a 92.3-percent usage rate by travelers on the highways of the CNMI.
DPS said regular seat belt use is the single most effective way to reduce fatalities in motor vehicle crashes.
