Easy victories for Genesis All-Stars, Akkeri

The Genesis All-Stars and 670 Akkeri earned double-digit winning margins against their respective opponents in the 2018 MIBF Island-wide Basketball League last Friday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

In the first game, the 670 Akkeri trounced the CK Ballers, 85-62, while the Genesis All-Stars hammered the Ol’Aces Extra in the second match, 96-76.

The Genesis All-Stars defeated the Ol’Aces Extra by 20 points after saving their best for last.

Ahead by only 7 at the end of the third period, 64-57, Ken Viray and Peter Lizama teamed up in the Genesis All-Stars’ breakaway in the final canto. Viray scored 11 straight points midway in the fourth frame, while Lizama added 10 after knocking in two 3-point shot and a pair of 2-point field goals.

The Genesis All-Stars had to lean on Lizama and Viray’s strong finish after the team wasted an early double-digit lead and the Ol’Aces Extra cut the deficit to a deuce at the break, 40-42. The Genesis All-Stars led by a baker’s dozen after the first quarter, 25-12, behind the successive baskets of Viray. However, Peter Camacho and Leroy Rangamar brought the Ol’Aces Extra back into the game in the second canto.

The Ol’Aces Extra stll kept the Genesis All-Stars within striking distance in the third period before failing to counter attack in the fourth to drop to a 1-3 record. The Genesis All-Stars improved to a 2-3 mark.

Meanwhile, in the first game, the 670 Akkeri notched its third straight win after routing the CK Ballers.

A 23-9 scoring run in the first quarter set up the easy win for 670 Akkeri.
