The veteran pair of J.J. Atalig and Joey Dela Cruz led the winners in last Saturday’s Saipan Chamber of Commerce two-person scramble golf tournament held on the west course of the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort.
Atalig and Dela Cruz were tied with Tony Satur and Peter “Dung” Tenorio for first place, as both pairs had similar scores of 64s, but the former ruled the weekend tournament after birdying No. 10. Atalig and Dela Cruz won $800 in the low gross category, while Satur and Tenorio settled for the $500 runners-up prize. Meae Jeon and Se Youn Jeon came in at third to bring home $300.
Paul Bea and Emil Pedernal, meanwhile, topped the double-peoria contest, while James Benavente and Michael Sablan settled for second place. Chang Hee Yoo and Cai Yu Nai finished third. The Top 3 received $800, $500, and $300 cash.
In other results, CNMI Attorney General Edward Manibusan almost became $5,000 richer after he nearly sank a hole-in-one after his shot landed just five inches away from the No. 13 hole. He settled for the closest to the pin prize of $125. McDonald’s was the sponsor at No. 13.
Manny Mangarero was the other closest to the pin winner at No. 3 with a distance of six feet and eight inches, while Freddie Salavaria made the accurate drive at No. 9 at five feet and 11 inches from the line.
Tenorio added the longest drive prize to his runner-up purse when he got his ball at 293.3 yards away from the tee. The closest to the pin, accurate drive, and longest drive winners received $125 each.
