Bridge Capital backs NMI Jiu-jitsu team
Another private company came to help the CNMI Brazilian Jiu-jitsu team in their bid to bring home medals from the 2018 Marianas Open BJJ Tournament in Guam.
Bridge Capital, LLC extended its support to the seven-member CNMI team by providing two three-bedroom units at the Guam Greyhound/Perlas Courte in Tamuning.
“We admire that TrenchTech is representing Saipan, so we are expressing our support of your pursuit and we wish the team good luck in the upcoming competition,” said Bridge Capital chief operations officer Tucker Baldwin.
TrenchTech promoter Cuki Alvarez, who is part of that seven-member team and will be competing as a brown belt, thanked Bridge Capital for the help. “They are giving us two rooms for the duration of our stay.”
Joining Alvarez on the squad are BJJ professor Clinton Dela Cruz, the lone black belter in the group, Kier Agda (white belt), Ken Tanzawa (purple belt), and blue belters Paulo Sangalang, Giovonni Taitingfong, and Jeff Garcia.
This is the first time that the CNMI will be represented by a local BJJ gym in the tournament that will be held this Sunday. Several independent fighters from the Commonwealth previously joined the competition.
Alvarez also thanked other local business—MARPAL, Team Crank Industries, crankeffect.com, Hertz, and an anonymous individual—for supporting their team.
Alvarez, who won the Masters 37-Up purple belt division in the 10th Copa de Marianas last year in Guam, left yesterday, while the rest of the team will be heading down south today.
