Another drowning at Lau Lau Bay
A 53-year-old Japanese male reportedly drowned while diving yesterday morning at Lau Lau Bay, where a tourist also drowned last month.
The victim, identified by the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services as Hirofumi Suzuki, was brought to the Commonwealth Health Center, where a physician pronounced him dead at 11:03am, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Jacqueline Rae Shepard.
It was a G4S security guard who called DPS dispatch at 10:24am about a possible drowning incident at a Lau Lau Bay dive spot.
Shepard said that when DPS Boating Safety police officers arrived at the beach at 10:31am they came upon two people trying to revive the unconscious victim, who was lying on the sand.
Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services rescue units arrived shortly after and continued administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the victim until an ambulance came at 10:41am.
Shepard said witnesses at the scene told police that the victim had entered the waters on a scheduled dive. While descending, the victim panicked and removed his breathing regulator, causing him to breath in water.
The diving instructor immediately pulled the victim from the water. With the assistance of another diving instructor, the first instructor began applying CPR.
“Their attempts to revive the victim were unsuccessful,” Shepard said.

Last Jan. 13, a Korean tourist drowned while her husband was swept away by waves and could not be found at Forbidden Island.
